FAQ

The text I have has been machine translated and only needs a quick review, can you do it?

Machine translation engines as great tools for drafting and assessing.

They will not however produce a useable translation that is fit for purpose. A machine translation does not manage context, underlying or intended meanings - they only handle the basics and, increasingly, assist with relevant terminology.

In order to produce a relevant and useful translation it requires a human translator. It is not enough to review a machine translated text, it will have to be translated and processed properly just like any other source text.

We will happily provide a full translation or your text. A “quick review” will not result in the quality that I stand for and that you deserve. .

Can I have this translated by tomorrow and at half price?

Delivery times are based on availability and will be assessed at the time of the request.

In general a request needs to be made 2-3 days in advance.

The delivery timeline depends on the volume of the text. In general you need to expect a minimum of 1 day per 4,000 words.

The topic and quality of the source text is another variable here as well.

Understandably, sometimes the need is urgent and I’m happy to assist with last minute and urgent request wherever available.

When required, a higher rate or last minute fee may apply.

The price will be set to reflect the effort of the job and to make it fair and worthwhile for everyone, and all be based on (timelines, topic, content, volumes, quality of source text and file formats.)

The baseline is the balance between Time, Quality and Price - top quality takes longer; a speedy timeline comes at a cost and might have an affect on quality . You determine which is most important for you based on what you need the translation for. We'll work with you to make sure the result right for you.

What translation tool do you use?

Memsource, MemoQ and any other cloud based tool you might want to provide.

Standalone file in standard Microsoft Office formats, Word, Excel as well as the corresponding standard Mac based formats such as Pages and Numbers.

Do you use Trados?

No. And we are happy to work with Trados-export files and to retain the formatting so you can import and upload the translation into Trados afterwards.

Do you certify the translation?

No. we do not offer formally certified translations.

We issue a signed verification of the translation, upon request. If you need a certification you can get a certifier to review the translation to certify that the target text is a true translation of the source text. .

Do you do localisation?

Yes we do.

If any specialised localisation is required for any part of a text, We will make the appropriate notes to enable you to have the relevant subject matter expert reviewed for the translation to ensure it is fit for purpose.

We have feedback on a translation, can you fix it?

Yes Of course! If there is an issue with the translation I will review and update it for you as soon as possible.

What are your rates, and why do they vary?

- hourly rate: EUR 40-60 / USD 45-70

- per word: EUR 0.75-1.00 / USD 0.90-1.20

- min charge: EUR 20 / USD 25

The rates are set to reflect the effort of the job and it varies with the timelines, topic, content, volumes, quality of the source text and the file formats. We always provide fair and transparent pricing for our clients.

Are you comfortable with the text and topic?

Before accepting any job we review the source text to make sure we can deliver the expected result.

We will only accept jobs that aligns with our expertise.

If there are special terminology or knowledge required for a or any part of a text, We will make the appropriate notes to enable you to have a relevant subject matter expert review the translation to ensure it is fit for purpose.
